Info

City of Evil is Avenged Sevenfold's third full-length album.

There is very little hardcore screaming on the record, and because of that and other changes in style, the CD was not put under the 'metalcore' heading like their previouis CDs had been.

The album was ranked number 63 on the October 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine's list of the greatest 100 guitar albums of all time.

Videography

City of Evil features most of thesongs that Avenged Sevenfold has made videos of. On May 4th, 2005, they released a promotional video for "Bat Country", which was done in the same way as "Unholy Confessions" on Waking the Fallen (live video with dubbed music). A few weeks later, on May 23rd, 2005, they released the promotional video for "Burn It Down", done in the same live video/dubbed music fashion.

The first professional video was released on July 28th 2005 for the song “Bat Country”. It was directed by Marc Klasfeld and was based off of the moving “Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas”. Fans were given a look into the making of the video the MTV2 special “Avenged Sevenfold: Makes A Video”.

In February 6th of 2006, the video for “The Beast and the Harlot” was released officially, the video had been leaked online on the popular website: YouTube.com a few weeks earlier. The band was not upset about the leaking of the video and encouraged fans to check it out online. “The Beast and the Harlot” was directed by Tony Petrossian and it also was subject to an episode of MTV2's “Makes A Video”.

The third and most current single and video from the CD is “Seize The Day” the video was released on June 30th of 2006 on the band's MySpace page. Many fans stayed up all night waiting for the video, which was posted hours after it had been promised due to MySpace site problems. The video was directed by Wayne Isham.

Trivia

"Bat Country" was written in dedication of the infamous writer/reporter, Hunter S. Thompson. The title comes from the first page of Thompson's book, "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas", where Raoul Duke (Hunter S. Thompson) says "We can't stop here. This is bat country."

"Betrayed" was written about Dimebag Darrel and Nathan Gale's admiration of Pantera and Dime.

"M.I.A." was written after M. Shadows talked with friends who were fighting in Iraq.
