Unbound (The Wild Ride) song meaning
The seventh song on the latest album, Unbound was formerly titled ‘Disneyland Acid Trip.’ However, the band did not have as much of a foundation for this song, in comparison to many of the other tracks. They were unsure as to what direction this song was going in, until they began questioning themselves. Synyster Gates says they began to ask themselves, “What does this song remind you of, what do you think when you’re writing this song? And we came up with a flying carpet ride, like this is a flying carpet ride. And as we went along, which happened much faster after that, we just realized it’s much more than a flying carpet ride – it’s like being on acid at Disneyland.” As the song evolved, M. Shadows decided to incorporate children singing into the song, giving Unbound plenty of direction soon enough. “We wanted to write about growing up and the whole circle of life: you grow up, you get older, you have one chance… and the kids at the end are singing something very heartfelt and meaningful, something that’s way too intelligent for their age and life, and that’s why we wanted to have these little kids singing this thing, ‘cause… they’re starting, you’re dying, then you’re creating energy for something new to be born.”
