In The City Of Evil

It's about the Holocaust, quite obviously.
A small light flickered,
Darkness swallowed the room
We knew before it came
As the end began to loom
Huddled in a dirty corner
A silent vigil took place
Reflecting, remembering
Her beautiful, young face
She could have been saved!
Spared and freed from such pain
She could have had dreams…
She would not live beneath his reign
“Henrik, what is happening?”
Oh, if only I knew…
Here hiding with many people
All the same; all were Jew
A blanket of sudden fear
Muffled noise of any sort
It was now or never…
Now we prepared to get caught
Shouts! Yells! Thick German accents,
Foreign language - we understood
We rose: fearful; dignified
For we had done all we could.
Detained, detested, distressed
Our lives became meaningless
Stricken with guilt, with terror
She died for me, I confess
This camp was no paradise
It was merely hell in disguise
For nothing I had to live,
For everything I had to die.
One cold, wintry evening
Blood stained the dark snow
His final solution to be with her,
He embraced the unknown |
