M. Shadows (born Matthew Charles Sanders on July 31st, 1981) Shadows was formerly a member of a punk band called Successful Failure, during which time he penned the song Streets, later recorded by Avenged Sevenfold.
Some of his influences include Bad Religion, Guns N' Roses, Pantera, Motley Crue, and Metallica

Sanders feels a strong support for the troops serving the United States, having very close friends who are currently in service[citation needed]. The song "M.I.A." ("Missing in Action"Wink was written in tribute to these friends. Before he performed the song at most shows, however, Shadows stresses that Avenged Sevenfold is not a political band and that they do not intend to become one.

M. Shadows Produced The Confession's Debut Album Requiem

M.Shadows had voice lessons from the same vocal coach that taught Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses.

M. Shadows is featured in the Bleeding Through song "Savior, Saint, Salvation.
